Location
Overview
Operating as a standalone program in Microsoft
Windows, the Location Module (lite version) allows you to
interactively design a road. Vertical and horizontal
alignments can be created using the mouse.
The Location module (lite version) includes 4 window types,
Plan, Profile, Cross Section, Data and Multi-Plot
(used for creating output sheets).
By exploiting the power of Microsoft Windows,
the Location Module allows the user to examine
changes from different views simultaneously.
Changes made in one window are instantaneously
reflected in adjoining windows. For example, an
adjustment made to the alignment in the cross
section window will immediately alter the mass haul
graph, and the slope stake projections displayed in
the profile, and plan windows.
Topography
Topographic information can be entered either
directly from field notes using the Survey/Map
module or extracted from a digital terrain model with
the Terrain module. Subsurface stratum interfaces
and materials can be included.
Templates
A template editor is provided to allow you to create
one or more templates to model your road design.
Turnouts, curve widenings, bridges, landings and cut
benches can quickly be created and assigned to
sections of the design.
Location Module templates are "smart" and can
automatically change cut/fill angles depending on
materials, thus significantly reducing the time
required to create and assign templates.
Vertical and Horizontal Alignments
Creating a vertical or horizontal alignment is quick
and easy. Working with the mouse in either the plan,
profile or section windows you simply point and
click. Immediate feedback is provided, allowing you
to monitor slope stake positions, grades as you design.
Circular or parabolic curves can be rapidly designed
in plan or profile by selecting PI points with the
mouse and entering a 'radius' or 'k' value.
Reporting Quantities
A configurable data reporting window is provided,
allowing the user to display, print or output design
information to a spread sheet. More than 100 items
are available to choose from; including volumes,
staking positions, cross sectional areas and mass
haul.
Output
Profiles, plans and cross sections can be output to
any Microsoft Windows supported printer or
plotter in single page or multiple page formats. Facilities
to export drawings to CAD via DWG and DXF are also
provided.
