Coordinate Data

Terrain Tools works with Cartesian coordinates such as UTM or State Plane. Coordinates can be entered directly   from the keyboard, with the mouse, from a digitizer, or imported from external files.

The Modify Current Points Dialog allows coordinates to be entered in either xyz format or survey format (bearing, distance and slope).

Import

The following import formats are supported.

ASCII (configurable)
Autocad^®  DWG and DXF
USGS DEM
ArcView  Shape
Microsoft Excel^®
Softree Survey Notes

The ASCII format is user configurable.  This flexibility accommodates a wide variety of file formats.

Feature codes can be recognized in the ASCII file and properties including symbols, linetypes and hatching can be automatically assigned to point or linear features.

Export

The following export formats are supported.

Autocad^® DWG and DXF
ArcView^®  Shape
Softree Survey Notes

 

Coordinate Systems

Conversion between Lat/Lon and Cartesian coordinates in a variety of map projections such as UTM, State Plane (SPC83 or SPC27), Albers Equal Area, Lambert Conformal Conic, Polar Sterographic and Polyconic is provided. 

Datum conversions are possible using grid shift files. For Canadian transformations, use the NTv2 grid shift file. For transformations on the continental US, use the NADCON grid shift files.
