Terrain Tools Forest Engineer Edition

Logging Plan Example

The following example illustrates the use of the Deflection Lines package for creating logging plans.

A digital terrain model (DTM) was created from ASCII coordinate data imported from a TRIM map (it could also have been imported as DXF, or traverse files).

The TIN model was calculated within a specified range encompassing only the area of interest.

The Deflection Lines shown in BL 109 were drawn with the mouse on the screen and "draped" over the model. The elevations along a draped feature are automatically determined from the terrain model and can then be used for deflection analysis.

Each deflection line can be positioned and repositioned, while viewing the profile window. This can be an excellent aid in determining the position of best deflection. Each block and road is named for the year that it gets logged or built. This makes it quite easy to display the blocks and roads for each logging year, and analyze them in terms of areas and lengths, respectively.

Output can then be generated showing each profile.
