Technical Tip - Keep a TToolsCE install file (.CAB) on your handheld in case of battery loss.

Purpose: If your device suffers from a battery power loss or you needed to do a hard reset, all installed programs and data not in immutable memory would be lost. This Technical Note describes a way to restore the program to full function mode after recovering from memory loss.

1. Download the appropriate TerrainToolsCE_XXX.exe from Softree's website at www.softree.com/support/down1.htm. The TerrainToolsCE downloads are compressed executables.

Save the download from the website to a temp directory on your desktop computer.

2. If you have not yet installed it to your PDA, do that now. Connect your PDA to your desktop computer using ActiveSync. Double click the downloaded file to begin the installation process. Detailed instructions can be found on the download page of the website. Follow the registration process to get TToolCE running in full function mode.

3. Extract the embedded .CAB file from the downloaded TToolsCE_XXX.exe file. This can be done using WinZip or a compression utility program of your choice.

4. Store the .CAB file in immutable memory on your PDA, either on a flash card or an internal immutable memory area. See your PDA manual for details as the various handheld devices are created differently.

5. Also store the SoftreePW.ini file in the same immutable memory area as the .CAB file. Be sure to store the SoftreePW.ini file you received from us after registering.

If your device suffers from a battery power loss, or you needed to do a hard reset, all installed programs and data not in immutable memory would be lost.

- To recover after such an incident, go to the immutable memory area where you stored the .CAB file and double-click to run it. This will reinstall TToolsCE.

- Then copy the SoftreePW.ini file from immutable memory to the \My Documents\Softree folder.

- You should now be up & running in full function mode.
