Digitizing Modes

Enter a known scale.

In this mode the scale of the drawing is entered.  Digitized areas and lengths are preserved but coordinates are not preserved.

Enter a known scale.

In this mode, 2 points are digitized and the length between them is entered.   Digitized areas and lengths are preserved. Coordinates are not preserved.

Match 2 coordinates.

Digitize 2 known coordinates on the map and enter their corresponding.  In this mode digitized areas, lengths and coordinates are preserved.

Enter scale match 1 coordinate and digitize a direction vector.

In this mode a scale is entered, a point is digitized, its coordinates entered and north direction is digitized.

Example.

Suppose you wish to digitize a map so that the resulting digital file will be in UTM coordinates.

1. Attach the a map to your digitizer (so that it doesn't move).

2. Select menu Options - Mapsheet Setup and the Map Sheet Orientation Dialog will appear. Enter the map scale and x, y coordinate of the known point on the map as determined in step 1.

3. After pressing OK, a message box will appear prompting you to Digitize Origin Point X:… Y:… will appear. Find the point entered in step 4. on the map. Digitize it using the Same key.

4. Next the message Digitize 1st direction vector point (Southmost) will appear. Digitize the first direction point on the map again using the Same key.

5. Next the message Digitize 2nd direction vector point (Northmost) will appear. Digitize the second direction point on the map again using the Same key.

6. This completes the Mapsheet setup for Coordinate digitizing. From here on points digitized will match the coordinate system which we have just established.
