Digitizer Key Definitions

The keys on the digitizer cursor can be used to control digitizing. These keys allow you to enter additional information such as elevation or attributes, and also provide you with control functions. Each of the functions described below corresponds to a key on the digitizer cursor. It is possible to change the functions key assignments using the Digitizer Key Mappings Dialog.  NOTE: If you have a 4 button cursor you will not have all the functions available.

NOTE: If you are not concerned with the elevation you can use either the SAME, UP or DOWN keys to trace the feature.

UP

Elevation is up one contour interval from the previous. (For more information see Entering Elevation Information below and Digitizing Profiles).

DOWN

Elevation is down one contour interval from the previous (For more information see Entering Elevation Information below and Digitizing Profiles).

SAME

Elevation is the same as the previous. (For more information see Entering Elevation Information below and Digitizing Profiles).

ENTER

Elevation is entered from the keypad (For more information see Entering Elevation Information below and Digitizing Profiles).

UNDEF

Elevation is unknown. In this case the elevation is determined by interpolation from the previous and next points (For more information see Entering Elevation Information below and Digitizing Profiles).

END/NEXT+

Saves the current feature in memory, increments the sub-feature index and begins the next feature. Entering this key twice will return to you to the TERRAIN module menu. The property of the next feature is (positive area).

END/NEXT-

Saves the current feature in memory, increments the sub-feature index and begins the next feature. Entering this key twice will return to you to the TERRAIN module menu. The property of the next feature is (negative area).

UNDO

Removes last entered point. Repeated undo removes additional last points consecutively.

ATTRIB

Allows you to attach an attribute to the last entered point. The user enters an attribute index corresponding to a standard attribute. Press the ATTRIB key again to terminate entry of attributes. It is possible to attach an attribute to a point with undefined elevation. Attributes are defined in the file ATTRIB.PRM.

DECIMAL

This key is used in conjunction with the ENTER key described above. This key indicates a decimal point.

NEG.

This key is used in conjunction with the ENTER key described above. This key indicates a negative sign.

ENTERING ELEVATION INFORMATION

When a point is digitized, its x,y location is determined from the position of the digitizer puck. The z (elevation) value is entered in one of several ways depending on the type of feature being digitized. The following key definitions allow you to specify the elevation of each digitized point (the corresponding key value on the keypad is configurable by the user). Before you digitize a feature with elevations, you will be prompted to enter a starting elevation and interval.
