Import Setup Dialog

This dialog is one of the tabs on the Terrain Setup Dialog.

Format

This list box contains a list of currently enabled import types. This is same list that appears in the Files of Type area when prompted for which file to import after selecting File - Insert File.  You can add multiple entries of the same file format, each with different options set.  You can also remove any formats you do not normally use.

Options

This button pops up the option dialog corresponding to the specific format entry you had selected in the option list.  It will be disabled if there are no options available for the type you have selected.  The following list details all available import format options:

Arcview Shape file

ASCII Text file

Autocad DWG/DXF file

Bitmap file

HP48 file

Landxml file

Magellan GPS file

Microsoft Excel file

Raw Survey file (Unit Survey)

Softree Map file

Softree Survey file

Softree Terrain file

USGS DEM file

Coords

This button pops up the Coordinate Transformation tabbed dialog which allows you to set rotation, shift and scale parameters as well as set geodetic transformation parameters.  See Translation and Rotation Parameters Dialog and Projection Transformation Settings Dialog for more information.  It will be disabled if coordinate transformations are unavailable during import of the selected file type.

Extensions

This button pops up the File Extensions Dialog which allows you to modify the file extensions associated with this import type.  It will be disabled if file extension modification is unavailable for the currently selected file type.

Add

Allows you to create a new import specification of one of above file types with your own customized options.  You can create multiple import specifications for the same file type, each with different options set.

Remove

This will permanently remove the import specification from the option list.  The option will no longer appear on the Files of Type area when selecting the File - Insert File menu.  To recreate any options that have been removed, you'll need to click the Add button.

Option Files

All of the option types that appear on the list are saved to disk in the Normal.IOP file.  You can store your own sets of formats in other IOP files on your hard drive.

Save

This will prompt you for a file path and name to write the current list of option types to that IOP file.  Note: the export options will be saved to the file also.

Open

This will prompt you for an IOP filename and path to replace the current list of options with the options from that file.  Note: the export options will be opened also.

Merge

This will load options from an external IOP file and not overwrite any that have the same description.  Only option types having a description that is not in the current option list will be added to the option list.  Note: only import options will be merged.  Export options will remain unchanged.

Shift Up and Shift Down

Allows you to organize the options so the ones used most frequently will appear at the top of the Files of Type combobox when prompted for a filename while inserting files.
